Antique 15k Enamel Heart with Pearls Mourning Ring
Antique 15k Enamel Heart with Pearls Mourning Ring
Lovely Victorian black enamel ring set with pearls and a small diamond in the center. The shoulder has checkered pattern, resembling harlequin suit. There is some wear to the enamel but most of them remained intact. This is a sentimental jewellery, with the heart shape decorated with pearls. The black enamel and the pearls led me to believe that this is a mourning jewellery. The mourning jewellery was made popular during the Victorian era after the death of King Albert. Pearls in Victorian jewellery can be represented as tears, and in other cases, purity and chastity. Is this a mourning ring for a young one? While it doesn't have any visible engraving, the sentiment of the jewellery which is complemented by its design is what makes this ring special.
