An antique Georgian mourning ring crafted from 14K rose gold encrusted with seed pearls that surround a principal rectangular cushion cut garnet.

The center garnet is encircled by a border of seed pearls with 3 further pearls in a 'v' shape down each shoulder. The shank has split shoulders adding to the overall elegant design of the ring.
The garnet is a deep wine red colour and contrasts beautifully against the sea of light grey pearls.

I personally love the crimped setting of the seed pearls and the collet setting with the sharp claws around the garnet that gives the ring a lot of character.

Mourning jewellery was created to commemorate the passing of a loved one and was worn as a symbol of remembrance.

The use of the garnet would symbolise eternal love and devotion while seed pearls represented tears shed for the departed. The combination of garnet and pearls reflected the sentiment of loss, love and the enduring nature of memory.

14K Yellow Gold (Verified by acid test)

No Hallmarks, Georgian era

Wonderful, pre-owned condition, surface wear commensurate with age. The garnet slants a little more to one side but it is not very noticeable and my jeweller has confirmed it is secure in its setting.
